This may not deserve its own thread, but I am SO EXCITED! "Surfer Girl" with Maroon 5, "Wouldn't It Be Nice" with Foster the People, and "Good Vibrations" with everyone is going to be GA-REAT!

It will be interesting. I can't tell you how many times during the day I find myself humming a Maroon 5 or Foster the People song. You don't find voices like those guys have every day.

Although Maroon 5 and Foster the People did an admirable job with their respective tributes to The Beach Boys, I wished it was The Beach Boys performing their own songs themselves.

It was great to see this 50th anniversary line-up of The Beach Boys perform, however brief. Though Brian Wilson looked like he was a out place during "Good Vibrations", his vocals was on right on the money... just perfect.

On a side note, former Beach Boys touring musician Glen Campbell was brilliant during his segment later on in the evening.

Foster the People had a few moments of brilliance however Maroon 5 were simply awful. I too thought that TBB should have sung their own songs. I kept waiting for them to pan to TBB like they do with their concert opening. Neither group did anything resembling justice to TBB.

As to BW, I too felt that he had that "Deer in the Headlights" look about him. I hope he's not planning on bailing on the concert like he was famous for. Great to see Cowsill on the drums rather than Stamos. Great to see them together but damn they're old. I hate to say that but the elephant is in the room.

ML sounded pretty good and they were great together. Man, 50 years.

The Beach Boys performed "Good Vibrations" excellently at The Grammys. I wished they were on a little longer... But you know what they say, "Leave them wanting more!".

Maroon 5 weren't that great, Foster the People were better and The Beach Boys were better but more so in a nostalgic kind of way. So happy to see them all back on stage together, can't wait for the tour dates to be announced!

I always think Brian has the "deer in the headlights" look so I didn't take much from that. It's always like someone tells him before the show..."remember Brian, at some point you do need to smile." LOL. Other than that, the least they could have done was start GV from the beginning of the song. But anyway, i'll take it. Can't wait to see them on tour.

When Brian first resumed touring, we went to a show in SD. As Brian was doing some patter between songs, he said "Wait for applause". It was one of those times when I was so embarrassed for him. He has gotten better since then, but the drugs and other things in his life have taken quite a toll.

Don't get me wrong, I loved TBB performance but I think it hurts so bad to realize that they aren't the boys of summer anymore.

Kind of like my first love in HS. She will be forever 15 and forever flawless.

Here is my analysis: the young Calofornia bands were not up to the task; some aspect of each song was off: harmony, grove, spirit; frankly, they sang the songs detatched from their meaning; they were cute and sweet and hopeful without understanding the deep heart of each of those love songs. Likely they were nervous, but they also had no particular chops or imagination either torecreate or to creatively reimagine the canonical texts they were struuggling with.

The only criticism I have of th BB themselves is th eproducore needlessly truncated GW, starting with the chorus; this was weird; we know the song so well, and I had to listen to the u-tube play back 5 times before I got my barings.

But: each part I could hear sounded great and true: Bruce and Brian together on Carl's part; David, I think, playing well and singing Dennis's part; Al, his own; Bruce, his own too on the choruses. Mike was mesmerizing and strong, reaching the audience and savoring every note--what a stage leader. Brian looked happier and sang higher and clearer than in any of the solo shows I say him do.

This was a major success, with the only flaw--the yound band's medling performances--serving to enhance the glory of the ancient masters.

Wainting every day for the album, dvd I hope, and if I can find a way to buy a ticket, a show. I imagine they will close the tour here in LA--Disney of Hollywood Bowl. Ticketmaster? what will it be?

best yo all you loyal forum fans

I have seen clips on You Tube as we didn't get the show over here. :(

It was so good seeing them all play together after so long. I'm really looking forward to the tour now (just hope they include Scotland in it).

Only downside was watching Maroon 5 and Foster the People (whoever they are) killing their songs.

Foster the People did a great job! Played the white guitars and old school drumset, and even wore blue and white striped shirts. Vocals were very good. Their young faces reminded me of the early Beach Boys...great choice to open for the Beach Boys!

I think Foster the People did an admirable job that they can be proud of.

The BB's were excellent (of course). Only minor thing that bugged me (at first) was Brian's mic was so far down in the mix during his verse that I could only hear Jeff and a bit of Bruce w/ a tiny bit of Brian. It's understandable really what with Brian's nerves but it jumped out at me when I first saw it. Now it sits relatively fine with me. I'm 100% sure Brian will be more audible in the concerts.

It was a great moment. I liked that Foster The People wore blue striped shirts. The whole time they were singing I kept saying "Where are The Beach Boys". I was so excited to see them. They did a good job. I agree that Brian had the deer in headlights look but I'm use to that. It was just great to see Brian, David and the rest all together on stage. The crowd seemed to dig it. I do wish it could have lasted longer. Maybe cut either M5 or FTP. When TBB were singing I said to myself "See guys, you can do this. You can get along." Thanks Beach Boys.

I thought both groups were pretty pitchy though not uncommon today I guess. It could have been somewhat of a range issue too. there arent to many people who have as strong of a voice with is range
as Brian use to have:(

Great to see them together again, but cannot help but miss Carl, and Dennis i never saw live anyway. I did read there was some debate on how live they really were <_< ? i mean at there ages how could they possibly reproduce those young mens vocals. It will be the last time to see them assuming the UK gets a date, and i will go if only for old times sake

I was very glad to see the guys perform -- even with the addition of the neophytes. I especially like the cool porkpie hat Dave wore. But for the life of me I couldn't tell at the moment who was singing the verses -- it didn't sound like anyone I recognised. But, of course, the choruses were much more recognisable, particularly Mike's vocal.

If the Grammy performance is any indication, no one will ever see the Beach Boys perform again with just five or six people onstage. They're probably going to be performing with a Wall Of Sound behind them. And what with modern sound technology and (God forbid!) autoTune, my fear is that the individual vocal talents of each band member might be obscured by the spectacle of the support players/singers. Like on Grammy night. Boy, I hope I'm wrong!

BTW, just Saturday I was rolling down the coast road, listening to Al's live album in the convertible. It was more than ten years ago, but he sounded really good! Particularly good singing the lead on BB songs that were otherwise Mike's lead. I hope his gifts are amply featured on this tour.

Link to interview Al Jardine gave for Slacker radio prior to appearing on the Grammys. He talks about the Beach Boys recording "Do It Again", the new album and tour. He said they are doing the tour for the fans which I love him for saying.
