Just got the Christmas CD that was recently released. I didn`t mind it being somewhat whimsical at times (Santa Claus is Comin` To Town,
Frosty the Snowman, Little Saint Nick---and the one that gave me a few giggles reminding me of a certain cousin, Santa`s Beard. I thought it was pretty good for a Christmas album as well as a Beach Boys album. I could hear a full choir (if it hasn`t already been done) doing We Three Kings of Orient Are. Also enjoyed Al`s Christmas Tree (one he wrote with Brian). So it will be good to start off Christmas with the Boys! -------------------- "I discovered something very profound. Like most long-term posters here, I have the BB Ultimate Christmas comp, all of which I believe is on the new album (and more). Not that I ever play it or Brian's All I Want For Christmas... "Little Saint Nick" is just about my only concession to Xmas, period - apart from the food, of course. There's also "Dancin' With Santa" by The Trashmen, which is so goofy it's cool... ;-) -------------------- ![]() The Beard of Love - The story so far... "I don't want to go out. I want to stay in. Ultimate Christmas is all you need. I actually listened to the new collection on Spotify this week, and it's enjoyable to listen to. Now, if you want a BRILLIANT Christmas album full of great harmonies, great melodies and a more contemporary feel try the new Elvis Presley Christmas Duets album.

Sounds good, at least if this is typical of it... Hasn't Bob Dylan brought out a Christmas album? I believe all proceeds are going to a good cause. Problem is, it's virtually unlistenable by all accounts... -------------------- ![]() The Beard of Love - The story so far... "I don't want to go out. I want to stay in. Get things done." As for Bob Dylan, brilliant song writer yet worse singer ever, although I do enjoy some of his songs (guess his singing makes my singing sound good). -------------------- |

Maybe BB Xmas stuff isn`t their best, but at least it`s better than listening to Perry Como (or 'Coma', as I like to call him).
I`m not much into Xmas music as a whole because I find most of it repetitive drival. It is the Beach Boys so I can`t complain too much. As for the holiday itself--give me the Winter Solstice festival of the Druids (or any of their holidays for that matter) or Saturnalia any day, since I basically call myself a free thinking pagan. (Perhaps I should have said 'holiday' season?) Yes, john k, the food is good and I enjoy being with the family (until the kids get on my nerves. I guess I need more Feel Flows). You sound a lot like my brother who would rather do away with the whole thing. I do hate the gift buying aspect (too commercialized) and maybe that is what this CD is, but it was the only one I could find that is readily available. -------------------- "I discovered something very profound. Don't get me wrong, I've never been averse to presents. :-D I think it has more to do with stultifying Christmases experienced in my youth. After a vast and well-lubricated (and admittedly extremely tasty) Xmas lunch, the three males of the family staggered to assorted armchairs and fell asleep, leaving the remaining family member to wash up in "her" kitchen. End of day really. It does tend to taint one's picture of the festive season. ;-) -------------------- ![]() The Beard of Love - The story so far... "I don't want to go out. I want to stay in. Sure, sure, Mr. Scrooge...
I really liked a lot of Brian's solo Christmas album, but really, there aren't a lot of Christmas records I play repeatedly. Sinatra's Capitol Christmas album (with "The Christmas Waltz," my favorite Christmas song) is probably my favorite. I'm not a religious person anymore, so I kinda miss that whole angle. And I'm 500 miles away from my family, so I miss THAT whole angle. And I'm divorced, so I miss the whole in-law angle. And I don't have any kids, so I miss THAT whole angle. Still, it's my favorite holiday. -------------------- In the long run men hit only what they aim at. End of day really. It does tend to taint one's picture of the festive season. ;-) That`s always how it was when I was growing up, the women in the kitchen, then men in the living room. We always got it twice during the holidays, first on Thanksgiving, second on Christmas. At least in this new generation there`s a couple males that do things differently (except my brother, of course, I love him, but sometimes----). Maybe I`m considered the lazy female in the family because I never really help with the immediate cooking, I do most of my preparation ahead of time. I come from a large family on both parents` sides so there were always plenty of people around. Most of them have passed on now including my parents. I try to put the bad memories of holidays behind and focus on the present. If I allow the bad memories to taint what`s going on now I wouldn`t get any enjoyment out of anything. And a lot of memories weren`t that great (I understand the 'well lubricated' part of your statement very well), but that was then. What`s going on now is more important to me. (Most of the kids are real little at this point, except three which are nine, nine, and ten and are past the screaming stage, otherwise--where`s the Feel Flows.) -------------------- "I discovered something very profound.
