"Hotting up" as I understand it means "causing to increase in intensity or excitement". I'd be most interested to hear your definition of it, Rh. A PM, perhaps? I`ve never heard it expressed as "hotting up". I`ve always heard it expressed as "heating up". -------------------- "I discovered something very profound. Never? Never. But here are the definitions I was able to find: "Hotting" is slang for dangerous stunts with a stolen car. In political circles it means candidates vying for a particular seat. The opposite of "cooling down." I think it is more European (particularly British) in its use. -------------------- "I discovered something very profound. It is admittedly a trifle "slangy". My apologies. -------------------- ![]() The Beard of Love - The story so far... "I don't want to go out. I want to stay in. Get things done." Wow, that little tiff was really hotting up then, lol. First of all I want to thank 'Scooby1970' for presenting this thread and allowing me to participate. It was a lot of fun and I was glad I was able to sneak in another U2 album since they are my #1 band right alongside the Beach Boys. I guess my 'bubble up' candidate would be Monty Python-Live at the City Center. They corrupted my youth (thank goodness) and it has about every classic sketch they ever did from their television show as well as a couple songs (The Philosophers` Song, The Lumberjack Song, and Neil Innes doing a very good parody of Bob Dylan). I suggest for the next 'top 100' we do a 'best posts of john k (see also 'John K)'. There are thousands to choose from and we could do this to honor our top poster whom we all love (I think) and appreciate (somewhat). -------------------- "I discovered something very profound. So many that I'd pick as "bubbling under"... but since we're limiting it to two...

I'm still around (I think) but our other moderator, Mark (of LA, not of Wales), regrettably abandoned ship some months ago. (Although I still hope against hope to see him break surface, somewhat barnacle-encrusted but intact, and haul himself back on board.) Now he has a wealth of great posts just crying out for a best 100 thread. -------------------- ![]() The Beard of Love - The story so far... "I don't want to go out. I want to stay in. I really didn't plan on posting my faves here, I was more interested to read your list (I already know mine). I was in last night nursing a swollen foot and in front of the computer. So there...
Its funny that some of you just can't leave it to the "100" as stated and had to include a "bubbling under". LMAO. Why not just start another topic and call it "Our other 100 favorite albums" or even "Our other 100 albums to listen to before we check out". I'm sure that will fill up fast enough. -------------------- ![]() The Bhagavad Gita says, "There has never been a time when you and I have not existed, nor will there be a time when we will cease to exist." |

Why not just start another topic and call it "Our other 100 favorite albums" or even "Our other 100 albums to listen to before we check out". I'm sure that will fill up fast enough. lol... I wake up this morning and find of the top 10 finished by mostly 2 people in the hurry to number 1. Good choices everyone and I'll compile the PDF. For those of us who were sleeping over night and unable to put our selections in we'll do a "Bubbling Under" section. So, my Bubbling Under 2 albums that I would have put in the top 10: The Beatles - Rubber Soul The greatest Beatles album, forget Revolver or Sgt Peppers, it is this album that brings out the best in the fab four. Brilliant production, vocals, melodies and lyrics, no other album comes close to this fantastic album. And it's got a great album cover! Elvis Presley - From Elvis In Memphis Nothing short of a Masterpiece, this is Elvis Presley at his ultimate best. Not only did he sing, but he played piano, guitar and helped produce this record. Completed after the 68' Comeback Special, Elvis was never on finer form than on than here. John, and anyone-else who missed the top 10 please put your albums here. I didn't think this was a Top 10 chart. If it was, Derek & The Dominos wouldn't be #1 in mine. -------------------- ![]() The Bhagavad Gita says, "There has never been a time when you and I have not existed, nor will there be a time when we will cease to exist." |

I didn't think this was a Top 10 chart. If it was, Derek & The Dominos wouldn't be #1 in mine. Yeah... my thinking, as I think I said in one of my posts, was that there are certain albums that are neglected, overlooked, due for reconsideration etc, and that was what I was thinking. The assumption being that if you weren't tipped off to Buck Owens or Bob Wills or Merle Haggard or Roy Wood (to cite four of my contributions), you might miss them... so give them a listen. Also, as with Brian's solo SMILE, I think it's kind of dismissed by a lot of people because it's not the Beach Boys' SMILE. So: reconsideration. Toward the end... I mean, I didn't want PET SOUNDS to NOT get mentioned. I'll start a thread with a second list. -------------------- In the long run men hit only what they aim at. Can I just say, this was a countdown 100-1 of albums we really should listen to before we die. A few of us were holding back albums for the top 20 or top 10, and a few of use while going from 100 downwards held off posting so others all had a fair chance. As it is, the "bubbling under" choices will be included in the article I am writing (as described elsewhere) along with numbers 100-1. I think however I will do it now in alphabetical order or artists or albums. I'll put in as much information as I can find about each of the albums, so if I need anyones help, I hope I can contact you.
Thank you all for your input, the list reads very interesting, I will put up the article when it is finished plus it will be on my blogs. As I said, I will be listening to as many of these albums as I can, I've checked and most are available on Spotify, others I can get elsewhere. Thank you all for your participation, those who haven't added a "bubbling under" couple of tracks, please do! -------------------- |

I'll put in as much information as I can find about each of the albums, so if I need anyones help, I hope I can contact you. Now that's a good idea! More methodical than simply shuffling them - which may of course be (cyber)technically impossible anyway. And of course, ask away... An aside: I know it's been used in titles of books about albums and films but I'm not entirely happy about this "dying" business. -------------------- ![]() The Beard of Love - The story so far...
