Thanks, BM. Heartwarming stuff. Now that'll be something to look forward to.

Great to see Brian placed in all sincerity in such stellar company. smile.gif

I hate to sound like this, but good God, I hate Disney. I hate to think of having to give that company money in order to hear music by Brian. I also don't like the whole idea of BRIAN WILSON SINGS EVERYONE'S FAVORITES instead of doing great new stuff like THAT LUCKY OLD SUN. (Which you still haven't broken down and bought, have you?)

But on the other hand, the guy is past retirement age, still making music, and he's earned the right to do the kind of music he wants, when he wants (or doesn't want).

And it will be VERY interesting to see what he does with those Gershwin fragments.

So my excitement is tempered, but I think it's good news.

I must admit I cringed when I saw Brian would be working with Disney. huh.gif Then again maybe he can improve upon
what they`ve done. A 'wait and see' attitude might be best in this situation. unsure.gif Maybe it was the lure of doing
Gershwin songs since he is such a big fan, I don`t know. I`m the last person in the world to presume about what
goes on in the head of Brian Wilson! laugh.gif

Disney has less iffy connotations over here, if you ignore Euro Disney near Paris and I understand that's the best policy... tongue.gif

It's the Gershwin connection that fascinates me. I haven't been taken with any of Brian's post-BWPS stuff (including - sigh - TLOS unsure.gif ) but this new project has a unique dimension to it. And not just for BW fans - the "classical" (for want of a better word) world will be watching/listening too.

Even my Dutch daily newspaper devoted a couple of column inches to this story. rolleyes.gif

I kinda hate to say I "hate" Disney. I mean, their stuff makes a lot of kids happy. I would guess that's where Brian's heart is on this one.

Right. I suppose we shouldn't forget that it was a Disney song (by Jiminy Cricket?) that inspired "Surfer Girl", Brian's first BB composition...

I just read this reply to my nephew-in-law (a Beach Boys fan!) and he said "That`s crazy." sad.gif (This 'sad' emoticon
put here at his request.) laugh.gif

I think it has the potential for greatness... great success, or equally great catastrophe. I'm thinking that it will stretch Brian to do some great arranging.

As for the moral implications of Disney... the mother company of Capitol is one of the biggest arms manufacturers on the planet. Did that color anyone's decision to buy TLOS ?

One more thing - watch this...

Little April Showers

... and then consider two things: one, what Brian could do with this... and two, the incredible quality of the background painting.

Agreed that this is a big artistic risk for Brian. That's the main reason I like it.

Just find most of what Disney has done since Walt died to be kind of smarmy, cloying and irritating. But then, on the other hand, I'm 45 years old, not nine. I'm probably not supposed to like it or get it.

EMI has been out of that business for almost 15 years, besides their current owners, Terra Firma, operates EMI only as a record company and music publisher. TF has no arms manufacturing companies in their current portfolio.

Brian Wilson fans will buy his albums if they want to, regardless of the label he's with. I just hope Disney will give this project proper backing and promotion. They have had very little success with their recording endeavors in the past 20 years. Disney's Hollywood Records have Miley Cyrus and Jonas Brothers, currently the US teen dream, pop idols. However, they've done nothing with the Queen catalog in the US, and Duran Duran and Los Lobos have both stiffed sales wise while they were aboard. If Bob Dylan & Rod Stewart can still get #1 albums in the US, there's no reason why Brian Wilson can't do the same with a great album and the proper promotion.

OK, it was this song and Carol Mountain* that inspired it - sorry, Carol, sorry, nephew-in-law... wink.gif

If it is crazy, of course, I'm sure someone else will add their two cents' worth. cool.gif

* Although at least one source denies Brian had either Carol or Judy Bowles or anyone specifically in mind

Aaahh, Bambi! Do you want to see us all cry, Andrew? It's not a pretty sight, an entire BB board blubbing...

I agree about the artwork - truly fantastic. There's no computer programme on earth that can provide the warmth of what Disney's draughtsmen were producing, frame after frame after frame of true inspiration and sheer hard work (or something).

Go for it, Brian. George G is surely smiling down on you right now...
