Full Version: Multi-National Bands

It suddenly occurred to me a while back that the members of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young represent three different nations (USA, England, and Canada). Mulling this over, wondering what other three-nation bands there might be, I though of the Wings lineup that included either Henry McCullough (from Ireland) or Jimmy McCulloch (from Scotland) to go with Paul and Linda McCartney, representing England and USA, respectively.

So, experts (I'm thinking of you first, Viper), who is the blue-ribbon winner for working groups (as opposed to one-off supergroups) with members from a variety of countries? Two-country groups need not apply, there are scads of them...

This doesn't count as I googled it - no mean feat in itself, of course, this kind of information doesn't grow on trees... cool.gif

The 2004 lineup of the Californian folk-rock outfit Tempest had five nationalities: Lief Sorbye (singer/mandolinist from Norway), Ronan Carroll (guitarist from Ireland), Ariane Cap (bassist from Austria), Adolfo Lazo (drummer from Cuba) and Michael Mullen (fiddle player from the USA).

Is there a blue cardboard ribbon for the best googled answer? tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

Afro Celt Sound System, who records for Peter Gabriel's Real World Records, are a multinational band whose current members are from England, Guinea, Ireland, and India. Former members include the late Jo Bruce (son of Cream's Jack Bruce) and Sinead O'Connor. A current member is a former Pogue.

The key members of the Afro Celt Sound System also performs with other musicians in a British multicultural conglomerate called The Imagined Village. Billy Bragg is one of their members.

The classic Santana line up (Santana, Abraxas & III) - Carlos Santana (Mexico), Gregg Rolie (US), David Brown (US), Michael Shrieve (US), Michael Carabello (Mexico) and Chepito Areas (Nicaragua) and Rico Reyes (Puerto Rico).

Go - Stomu Yamashta (Japan), Steve Winwood (England), Al Di Meola (US), Klause Schulze (Germany) and Michael Shrieve (US). This is a "supergroup", but not really a "one of" band, they released three albums. The geographic distances between the players doomed the band.
